RESTRUCTURING

The Choir has now been in existence for three years and has very much settled into its base in Glasgow.

As a result of the increasingly rapid growth and development in recent times, we now intend to re-structure our activities to support the further growth of the Choir in the coming years. This will necessitate a number of important changes in the coming months, including:

  • One additional rehearsal per week, on a Saturday morning, for the Youth Choir – this will form part of a rigorous training programme for talented choristers aged between 12 and 16;
  • Weekly singing lessons for choristers, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, to develop the vocal technique of each individual chorister;
  • An opportunity for your children to do graded singing exams, according to the Trinity Guildhall Syllabus (which is UCAS accredited).
  • Bi-monthly inspirational talks and social evenings – which will fall on either Wednesday or Saturday rehearsals – aimed at encouraging the spiritual and personal development of Choristers, inspired by the views and testimonies of individuals directly involved in sacred music or charitable and humanitarian work.
  • Junior Choir rehearsals moving from Wednesday evenings to Saturday mornings (Between 10 and 12 noon) – venue to be announced.

IMPORTANT EVENTS

15th September 2011

SLYC will be participating in the Archdiocese of Glasgow’s Arts for Autumn Programme, performing Stabat Mater and Messe Basse in St. Andrews Metropolitan Cathedral.  Please note this date in your diary – we need all choristers to commit to this high-profile performance.

September (date to be announced)

Former SLYC chorister, Neil Longway, will give a presentation on his recent trip to Malawai, with the Ravens Trust Charity, in which he worked as a Building Surveyor. This forms part of our humanitarian ethos and will provide a real example of the difference that a person can make to the lives of those in need, using their talents and gifts (whatever they may be). The presentation will be followed by copious amounts of Pizza!

Saturday 26th November

After the success of our first Ceilidh in March, SLYC will be holding a further shindig around St. Andrew’s Day.

10th December

Christmas concert at Auchlochan Retirement Village – this was greatly appreciated by the elderly residents last year and we have therefore agreed to return for another visit.

FINAL REHEARSAL

The final rehearsal before the summer break will be held on Wednesday 22nd June.  This will include:

  • A meeting with all parents concerning our restructuring plans (8.15 – 9p.m.) – we would really appreciate it if all parents could attend this, if possible;
  • A raffle for a beautiful hamper in support of those going out to Romania – tickets are available now;
  • Final payments for all those participating in our much-anticipated Romanian trip will be due on this date;
  • All choristers going to Romania should bring their passports on this date (they will be held securely to ensure no-one turns up at the airport without their passport);
  • A dressmaker will be present to take measurements of female choristers for our new Choir uniform.

REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

Rehearsal and performance dates are listed below (click to view large version) – please read this very carefully and let us know of any issues concerning availability well in advance.

We very much appreciate the effort and support that you have all shown in these past few months.  The Choir is going from strength to strength and we are well placed to benefit from the even more exciting and fruitful period that we are now entering.

God Bless,

Joan & Una
