About SLYC

SLYC in concertThe Spirit of Life Youth Choir was founded by musicians Una Cunningham and Joan Dillon in January 2008. It has an express aim to inspire a new generation of young people through choral singing by promoting the values inherent in choral singing, including team work, unity and personal responsibility.

SLYC seeks to change the lives of its young participants, offering them the opportunity to participate in a wide range of concert performances, both in Scotland and further afield. Throughout 2009 the choir enjoyed many exceptional occasions including an invitation to sing at the House of Lords, London, as well as performing with a variety of outstanding artists such as America’s King of Gospel Jessy Dixon and classical pianist Aleksander Kudajczyk.

Of equal importance is SLYC’s desire to foster a spirit of active and lifelong citizenship amongst its members, donating all profits, after running costs, to charities working with vulnerable children and adults in countries across the world. One of these charities is The Epiphany Trust, a charity that runs many international projects for vulnerable children who have been the victims of poverty, war and natural disasters.

The Patron of SLYC is Dr Archie Ewing.
